A top saxophonist currently living and teaching in Knoxville and on tour with iconic jazz guitarist Bill Frisell.

Gregory Tardy has released 16 albums since 1992 on SteepleChase Records, WJ3 Records, Impulse! and other labels. He has performed or recorded with Elvin Jones, Andrew Hill, Dewey Redman, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Bill Frisell, Brad Mehldau, Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Steve Coleman, Betty Carter, Avishai Cohen, Wynton Marsalis and Aaron Goldberg, among many others.
Born in New Orleans and raised in Milwaukee in a musical family, Greg started out on clarinet and was preparing for a symphony career. He started playing saxophone only because he was asked to fill in gaps in various ensembles. He became serious about saxophone and also jazz and moved back to New Orleans to focus on his jazz studies. He is currently an associate professor of Jazz Saxophone at the University of Tennessee’s College of Music in Knoxville.
