The band will consist of Langston Hughes II on saxophone, Lonnell Johnson III on keyboard, Michael Bowie on bass and Quincy Phillips on drums.
Langston Hughes II is a young multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader whose music radiates with beauty and passion. Through each piece he performs or composes, he invites the audience to share in his life experiences, paying homage to the iconic musicians who have influenced him while also embodying a distinctive sound inspired by his faith.
Langston is an alumnus of Howard University and a current student at The Juilliard School in New York City. He has been the recipient of an array of awards and achievements, including being a featured soloist for the United States Army Blues Orchestra and a Strathmore Artist in Residence during their 2021-2022 performance season. He was also selected to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency at the John F. Kennedy Center where he had the opportunity to study under jazz greats such as Jason Moran, Marcus Printup, Peter Martin, Clarence Penn, Casey Benjamin, Micheal Bowie, Chris Thomas, and Chamille Thurman.
